Surfing the net for flyfishing info, sooner or later you have to run across a post from Clyde Watson. There are signatures and there are signatures on e-mail. Signature's somewhat correspond to the header on stationary. Most users settle for name, address, phone number, e-mail address and URL, if they have one.
Some signatures get alittle more adventurous with small designs. The art is constricted and limited by the key designs of the keyboard. Anything else, even the smallest graphic, cannot be transmitted by e-mail.
After seeing a couple of Clyde's designs, I asked him how long it took him to do a signature since others had related, design and finis. Clyde's reply was somewhat surprising, the idea takes all the time and keyboard time is short. Like any art, a good eye is a big help.

[Notes from Clyde]
As written earlier, it's the ideas that come hard, also if a graphic incorporates a technique I haven't learned yet, it may take me a while before I am comfortable with the finished product. However since most of my signatures are related, design comes easily most of the time. It's the ideas that are hard. I might get an idea and it's three days later after thinking about it before I get to "draw". I spend a minute here and there "doodling" with my idea throughout the work day as a means of a mental stress break and usually I have something satisfactory to me in under 30 minutes of "doodling". However I might make minor changes for a couple of days until I feel completely satisfied with it.
Below are a few examples of fly fishing related ASCII Art. Most of it is from my signatures. As with any "artwork" from the network. Individuals are free to use them, but it is expected to give credit to the original author. I'm happy if my initials (cww) are included with the graphic.

The first one may need a little explaination. It is an old joke that at one time (many years ago) was published in Playboy. Once I heard it I had to do an ASCII version of it. In order to fully enjoy the punch line you must realize that many mayflies are adults for a few short hours. So they only have one night to mate and reproduce.

The flyfisher below started out as a cowboy that was drawn by someone else. I changed the clothing a little and his features and hat and ended up with the following single panel cartoon. Unfortunately I don't have the author information of the original cowboy or else I would give appropriate credit.
