FLY MAYOR

Fly Mayor* is a simple gif process which allows flies to show thru a tying process, from the bare hook to various angles of the completed fly. The name, Fly Mayor, stands for "MAke Your Own Reference, FLIES". Fly Mayor, simplicity, all platform availablity, low to freeware software cost, should make it the de facto standard for showing fly patterns.

After getting over the power of the web, and seeing static fly graphics, we sat back and thought, there's got to be a better way. And there is.

With the vast array of sources to convert to digital images, there is no problem with image availability. The graphics must be in a digital form but the choices to get this form is virtually unlimited. Cameras, from 35mm to camcorders, can be used. For the 35mm, a slide scanner is needed to digitize the image. Camcorders users need a computer with a video card that can grab individual frames. With a scanner, any graphic on paper can be digitized. Digital cameras are a great choice, especailly with the prices dropping in recent months. FFN uses a digital camera for the Fly Mayor's shown.

The sequences can include whatever is deemed critical to note the pattern. Various angles of the finish fly can give depth perception. The finish product is a gif product which can be used as any gif, from keeping your own fly pattern notes to showing tying proceedures on the web.

Fly Mayor is out there for all platforms and the cost for the program ranges from freeware on the Mac side, GifBuilder 0.5, which these were produced in, to $30. on the Windows end, Photo Inpact GifAnimator. If there is a better product, please let us know and we'll add it to this page. Anything that put together a gif sequense will work.
