LAX¡ IN KJ"S & BUGDA

The river Laxa means salmon river, and there are several rivers of this name in Iceland. The river Laxa in Kjos is nearly 25 kilometers long with over 90 named pools. It runs through varying terrains, and offers the fishermen choices ranging from white water rushing steep gorges to gently moving flats ideal for the fly, and again to pools below and above waterfalls where salmon often stop and rest on their journey upstream.

The Bugda is a tributary which feeds the Laxa from a lake. It has a range of pools which often produce sizeable catches.

Most visiting fishermen use the services of experienced guides, who will drive them in all terrain vehicles from pool to pool, and advise on choices of fly and technique. Most of the best fishing is easily accessible.

LOCATION

Laxa in Kjos is only a half hour drive from Reykjavik, the capital of Iceland, and about one hour from Keflavik International airport. Iceland however, is a small and thinly populated country, so the Laxa in Kjos is in a beautiful and isolated setting.

The river runs into Hvalfjordur bay on the west coast of Iceland.
