The pattern that is detailed in this kit is truly of Catskil origin.
All of the characteristics; the wood duck wing fur dubbing and dun hackle
are used and typify what has come to be known as the Catskill style.
The pattern was originally developed by Mr. Roy Steenrod of Liberty NY around
1916. It is named after a Mr. A. E. Hendrickson a well know f1vfishernan
of that time. The pattern has remained very popular and will be seen in
most catalogues up to this day.
There have been a number of variations made of the original pattern. The
most common is an alteration of the color of the dubbing. The pattern describe
here is attributed to Mr. Art Flick, who substituted urine stained fox dubbing
for the fawn colored dubbing of Mr. Steenrods design. Such subtle differences
distinguish one tyer froth another
When Mr. Steenrod first developed this pattens it is likely that he was
not aware of the scientfie name for the mayfly which was sought to represent.
Over the years it has become associated with the mayfly Ephemerella Subvaria.
It is one of the first big niayfly hatches seen in the Catskills each season.
The pattern is usually tied in size #12 or #14.
All feathers, furs, hair and hooks required for six flies are included. This
kit contains no threads or tools.
